Kirknewton Parish Council :  intro

The Parish Council administers the government of the parish and provides a means by which people have access to the decision making process and can express their views at public meetings. Kirknewton parish council has been very active over the years. The provision of a better water supply was a major success and improvements in road signage such as the chevron at the School House corner and the mirror at the War Memorial have improved safety. The transcription of names from the memorial onto a plaque, supported by donations, has been another much appreciated result of their endeavours. They campaigned long and hard to persuade the County Council of the need for a weekly Bus to Wooler. Initially for a 6 month trial the service is still going strong 4 years later. When ther were floods in 2008 and 2009 the Parish  Council liaised with the Environment Agency, Natural England and NCC Highways Department to raise the concerns of local people and see that issues were addressed.

The Parish Council meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 2pm in Kirknewton Village Hall. Minutes of the meetings can be read online where the exact date of the next meeting is stated.
